For over 30 years, Lyz Snidal has worked with people of all ages and health issues. She is always open to discuss with her clients the treatment that is best suited to their needs. The following is a summary of her experience and knowledge.
Massage Therapist, RMT
» Graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Toronto in 1978. Learned “Swedish” or Classical massage, a deep tissue massage. This treatment is especially helpful with poor circulation, sore muscles and pregnancy. Massage is widely recognized as being helpful in many medical situations and excellent for one’s general health.
» Studied basic Manual Lymph Drainage at the Vodder School in Austria in 1988. Studied Level One of Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage in 1989 with Robert Harris.
Shiatsu Therapist, CST
» 1979 to 1982: Taught Shiatsu by Mitsuki Kikkawa, in the initial days prior to the formation of Kikkawa College. Mr. Kikkawa studied in Japan with Namakoshi, a pioneer in bringing Shiatsu to the Western world. Shiatsu, meaning “finger pressure”, follows the same Eastern theory as Acupuncture. Rather than focusing on key points, Shiatsu works on all of the Meridians (highways of energy) that enervate all the organs of the body. The aim is to stimulate and balance the energy flow, and to positively help the muscular, circulatory and nervous systems. Treatments range from 1 to 1.5 hours. In addition to being a corrective treatment, Shiatsu is a very good preventative health measure.
Kneipp Hydrotherapy Therapist
» In the 1980s studied Kneipp hydrotherapy in Canada and Germany with Herr Schleinkofer, from the Kneipp Schule. Developed by Father Sebastian Kneipp, it is the systemized therapeutic application using water.
Attained Bathmasters and Medical Hydrotherapy license in Bad Worishofen, Germany in 1990.
» Taught hydrotherapy in Canadian massage schools for ten years and have written two training manuals for massage therapists.
» Use hydrotherapy as self-care and for therapeutic home treatments. These treatments stimulate the immune system, and act as an aid to the body’s circulatory system. Hydrotherapy is an excellent day to day tool in maintaining ones’ general health.
Hurley/Osborn Technique Therapist
» 1997 to 2000: Studied the Hurley/Osborn technique. This is a gentle treatment that aids in structural realignment and helps relieve chronic pain. Originally called Aquarian Age Bio-Mechanics and Bio-Engineering, and also known in Britain as Spinal Touch, this modality was developed in the 1930s by the chiropractor Dr. John Hurley. In the 1940s, chiropractor Dr. Russell Osborn studied with Dr. Hurley and opened up a clinic to train therapists in 1997 in Victoria, B.C. (see www.hurleyosborn.com for further information ).
» Helped form the Hurley/Osborn Association to encourage public awareness and offer therapist training. With this technique, a plumb-line is used to assess the individual’s posture and light touch is then applied to the hips, spine, neck and shoulders to release tension. Initially, four successive treatments, one to two weeks apart, are encouraged. The intention is to relieve the individual of chronic pain. This treatment works well with the support of self-motivated practices in movement and exercise (i.e. stretching, yoga, tai chi), and treatments (i.e. shiatsu, massage). A ‘tune-up’ 2-3 times a year is encouraged to maximize the individual’s health.
